On Thursday, Sept 29, 2011, the community of Laura Secord Elementary School celebrated the re-opening of its new seismically upgraded school building with a school assembly featuring brief speeches Vancouver Board of Education Chair Patti Bacchus, MLA Shane Simpson, Vancouver City Councillor Andrea Reimer, parents and students. 

There was also a very special time-travelling guest - Laura Secord herself. Secord regaled students about the differences between her time and there's and learned the ins and outs of seismic upgrades. 

The Laura Secord celebration marks another step forward in a long running project by the VSB to improve and strengthen dozens of schools throughout the city so that they are seismically sound.
