Elves Busy at Mackenzie Elementary
Mackenzie Elementary elves were hard at work this holiday season as they cut, drilled, chipped and sanded wood toys for less fortunate students in their neighbourhood.
The toy making has been a tradition for the past six years in Todd Millway's grade 7 class. While some students decide to make a bus out of the block of wood (not exactly taking the project to new levels of creativity), others have created everything from wood helicopters to a mouse on a skateboard. Millway says he's frequently impressed by the creativity and skill of his students.
All the students' toys are bundled together and sent to Little Mountain Neighbourhood House where they are distributed to less fortunate families. Millway says the project gives his students a chance to feel like they're giving back to their community.
