Lord Beaconsfield and Capilano University Students Come Together for Second Evening of the Bands
Last year, Lord Beaconsfield Elementary decided to host their first Evening of the Bands. The concert included students from Beaconsfield, several other neighbouring elementary schools, Gladstone students and some of Capilano Colleges' brightest 4th year Jazz Studies Program students. The concert was a big success and this year, concert organizers decided to produce an encore.
Chris Barnes, one of Capilano's jazz students, was delighted to return. He says he sees the value this event provides to everyone involved.
"It's a great experience," says Chris Barnes. "I get to support and strengthen the incredible talent at Beaconsfield. I think it's good for them to get introduced to university level music students."
Like last year, the event began at 3:30pm and students spent time throughout the day in a specific group related to their instrument, such as saxophone, flute, clarinet, percussion and trumpet. The groups then converged and performed in the evening concert.
Later in the evening everyone was treated to a well-deserved tasty treat of pizza slices and beverages.
"Students here are highly committed to music," says Beaconsfield's Principal Greg Barnes. "It's important to provide them with opportunities where they can continue to develop their musical skills and explore their own talents. An event like Evening of the Bands provides that."
Evening of the Bands reflects the commitment that Beaconsfield maintains towards its talented students. Barnes says the concert demonstrates time and again how much the school cares about its musicians.
