David Thompson Boys Go to the Curling Provincials in Kamloops

David Thompson Secondary has a lot of things going for it. One of those things is an all-star curling team. On February 27, the school sent their curling team to Kamloops where they representated the lower mainland at the high school provincial curling championships.

Over the past few months, the David Thompson's curlers had done very well on the ice earning the right to represent Zone 2, consisting of: Vancouver, Burnaby, North Shore and Howe Sound. They completed the zone playdown with an undefeated 5-0 record to earn one of eight spots at the provincials.

After bussing into the interior, the team started out their run in Kamloops with a 3-0 record at the end of the first day of round robin play. They finished the tournament with a 4-3 record.

The team's coaches say their students' placement was a great finish for a team that had never before made a provincial appearance.

This year's team consisted of Matt Chan, Kevin Chen, Benny Jiang, Niko Savas and John Dinh, all of whom played three challenging days of intense curling where blisters were the name of the game.

Particular credit for the team's success goes to Roger Chan, a parent and provincial level coach, who accompanied the curlers to the interior.
