Kingsford-Smith Observes Remembrance Day with Veterans and Performs Stirring K'naan Song
During a very special Remembrance Day ceremony, students from Kingsford-Smith Elementary performed a variety of solemn and powerful musical acts including a senior choir rendition of K'naan's "Wavin' Flag". The ceremony took place in the school gym, which was adorned by half a dozen silhouettes and poppies.
The entire Remembrance Day ceremony was observed by five veterans including a piper and a Colour Guard. The colour guard was led by Commander Robert Rietveld. Staff said the participation of the veterans at Kingsford-Smith was particularly powerful for many students.
"It was a very important and meaningful tribute," said Kingsford-Smith principal Judy Nishi. She credited the hard work of her school staff and particularly her senior choir teacher Melanie Sheppard who helped student perfect their K'naan performance.
