VDSC's CANley Cup Raises over 150,000 Cans for Those In Need
This past December, the Vancouver District Students' Council (VDSC) hosted the fourth annual CANley Cup: District-Wide Canned Food Drive Competition. All eighteen public high schools within the Vancouver School Board were invited to join the fundraiser in helping families and the less fortunate during the holiday season. Collectively as a district, the cans and money raised was donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
To promote school spirit and encourage the collection of more donations, the VDSC initiated the CANley Cup as a district wide competition. After the competition, the school which raises the most cans per student was crowned the Cup champions and awarded the coveted CANley Cup - a trophy made out of recycled cans with the engravings of winning schools every year.
The top three winners for this year were Sir Charles Tupper Secondary, Point Grey Secondary, and Eric Hamber Secondary. In total, Vancouver students have collectively raised 156,805 cans for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
