Job Action Update - June 17, 2014 - FAQs: Report Cards, Provincial Exams and Summer School
Report Cards
Grade 12 marks will be submitted to the schools by June 20th. The submission of marks for grade 12 students (only at this time) is considered an "Essential service" according to the Labour Relations Board.
If the strike continues, it will be challenging to collect marks for other grades and complete report cards. The district will determine how to handle the reporting of student progress once we receive more advice from the Ministry of Education.
Provincial Exams
The Labour Relations Board has determined that it is essential for teachers to carry out grade 10, 11, and 12 provincial exams. Please see the attached schedule of June 2014 provincial exams for all public schools that students are expected to write if they are registered in those courses.
Provincial exams are proceeding according to the regular schedule. Students who require special accommodations during the exam will be provided with the support they would normally receive. All students are asked to ensure they bring photo ID with them, such as a GO Card or BC ID. Each school will have designated one entrance for students to enter the school to write exams - students should read the signs posted at the school. There will be no pickets near that entrance. Schools administrators are working hard to ensure that exam conditions remain consistent with normal practice and that students are provided with the best possible exam environment.
Summer School
We are considering the status of summer school at this time. If the strike continues into the summer, and the BCTF chooses to picket the sites, then summer school may need to be cancelled. We anticipate making a decision as to whether or not to cancel summer school by early next week.
