Project Chef Heads to Osler on US Food Day

Students were sauting up a storm with Project Chef volunteers and a special contingent of volunteers from Les Dames d'Escoffier. The challenge that day was transforming the piles of raw vegetables, tofu, soy sauce, ginger and other fresh ingredients into a delicious lunch.

Chef Barb Finley was on hand to help the students learn more about healthy eating and the basics of cooking 101.

While the visit to Osler was new, cooking in Vancouver Schools is nothing new for Finley and her merry band of chef-teachers. Indeed, earlier this year Finley and her program were honoured by VSB Superintendent Steve Cardwell with a BC School Superintendents Association Award of Recognition for their contributions to public education last spring.

Finley says there are many people who need to be thanked for the program's success. In addition to eager volunteers like Les Dames, she also points out that Vancity, Face the World Foundation and WorkSafeBC have all been huge and important financial contributors.
