For the last five years Windermere students have put on an Earth Day Parade. This event is planned by the Leadership 11 class at Windermere Secondary School. This family friendly parade proceeds northwards on Commercial drive to Grandview Park and is followed by speakers, music, educational tables and much more. 

Organizers say their goal for this event is to give the youth and members of the community the chance to explore, improve, and share their experiences with climate change. This year's main focus is climate justice as well as the impact of fossil fuel extraction on communities across BC including Burnaby mountain and aboriginal communities.

"We will be emphasizing our desire for urgent action on a variety of issues, such as the lack of environmental action in Canada," says Windermere teacher Vagner Castilho. "We hope to act as a catalyst for change towards a greener more sustainable future."

The event is on April 26th and starts at 11:30am at Commercial-Broadway Skytrain Station. Speakers participating this year include Tamo Campos, David Suzuki's grandchild as well as SFU professor Lynn Quarmy who recently took a stand against the planned Kinder Morgan Pipeline on Burnaby mountain.

"This event is open to all ages and anyone who wishes to celebrate the earth and learn more about local and national environmental issues," says Castilho.
