Oppenheimer Senior Band Takes Gold at Local Competition

The Oppenheimer Elementary Senior Band brought home a gold rating at the 2015 Vancouver Kiwanis Concert Band Festival.  Student music ensembles from across the province came to Richmond, BC to perform for professional adjudicators who then provided feedback in a 30-45 minute coaching session following their performances.

The senior band at David Oppenheimer Elementary, is a 40-member concert band comprised of students in Grades 6 and 7. Most have been playing their instruments for 2-3 years.

"I waited to tell the band their rating on the bus before we headed back to school, and when they heard it was gold they just went ballistic, cheering and screaming. It was great, " says band director, Jessica Lemes da Silva. "They worked hard and really gave an ace performance that day. I couldn't be prouder."

The Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festivals are dedicated to the encouragement, instruction and celebration of young musicians in Greater Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.
