1st Annual Britannia Secondary Business Case Competition

Working in conjunction with the SFU Beedie School of Business, the 1st Annual Britannia Secondary Business Case Competition will be held Saturday, April 16 at Britannia Secondary.

Business case competitions are typically done at the university level, but there is a strong movement in BC to bring a similar experience to high school students.

This competition is a first for the Vancouver School District. Future plans include organizing a circuit amongst schools in the Lower Mainland where students can compete against each other on a regular basis. The benefits are tremendous as case competitions allow students to benefit their skill sets with respect to critical-thinking and analytical skills as well as presentation and public speaking skills.

During the competition, students are given a real-life business situation (a case) that has been organized by a company or firm. They then work in teams of four to understand, analyze, and solve a case before they present their recommendation to a panel of judges.

Schools also competing include Eric Hamber Secondary, A.R. MacNeill (Richmond), Burnaby North, St. John's (Vancouver), and Sutherland (North Vancouver). Parents are invited to watch the final round and awards in Britannia's historic auditorium from 2:30 to 4:00.
