Fleming Elementary gets funding for new school

April 22, 2016 - The Province and VSB, along with the City of Vancouver, today announced funding to build a new school at Sir Sandford Fleming Elementary, as part of the seismic mitigation program.

The Ministry of Education is contributing $19 million to build the new school. The first two stories will house Fleming Elementary, and the third level will house a daycare, which is being funded with $6.3 million from the City of Vancouver and $500,000 from the Ministry of Children and Welfare Development.

"We are proud of this "innovative solution, working with our partners, to build a new school and a daycare, that will create both a safe environment and amenities that are needed by families in this community"," said Mike Lombardi, Chair of the Vancouver Board of Education. "The Vancouver School Board is committed to ensuring that staff, students and families at Fleming Elementary will have a safe and welcoming place to learn and thrive for decades to come."
