Message regarding the crisis in the Middle East
Our thoughts are with all those impacted by the deadly attacks in the Middle East this past weekend and the ongoing violence in the region. At VSB, we serve all students, staff and communities, including members of the Jewish, Palestinian and Israeli communities.
As an education system, it is our duty and obligation to uphold human rights and to protect the well-being of every individual so that they feel a sense of belonging at school and work. We understand that students, families and staff members within VSB school communities may have a direct connection to this tragedy, and feel a sense of grief, pain and worry. The news of this tragedy may also cause concern by members of other communities who have experienced violence, war and insecurity. As a school system we are here to support students who have been impacted by these events.
District and school-based staff including teachers, principals, counsellors and others are available to provide support to students. We will continue to engage in supportive and age-appropriate discussions in the hope of creating a more just, safe and peaceful world for everyone.
If we can provide your child/children with additional support, please reach out to your school principal. Together we will continue to prioritize the mental health and well-being of all those we serve here at VSB.
