The Policy and Governance Committee meeting was held at the Education Centre on Wednesday, November 8, where the meeting was also live-streamed. The only item on the agenda was about the Board policy review work plan.
One of the responsibilities of the Policy and Governance Committee is to ensure Board policies are reviewed at least once every Board term (four years), and that compliance with legislation, regulations and legislative mandate is maintained. Currently there are 24 Board policies. As part of this work, Committee members participated in small group discussions to provide their feedback about a work plan that reviewed the existing Board policies. The three-year work plan aims to identify which polices should be reviewed and when.
Guiding questions to support dialogue/feedback included:
- Which policies must be promptly reviewed and revised to ensure full compliance with the latest legal requirements and provincial guidelines?
- In what ways do our current policies uphold our values of equity, diversity, inclusion, truth and reconciliation?
- Which policies, in your view, are interconnected and should be reviewed at the same time to ensure a cohesive board policy framework?
See the agenda package for the full list questions.
Input received was collected and will be considered by the Committee chair and District staff supporting the Policy and Governance Committee, before it is shared with the Board chair.
