University Transition Program

Program Objectives

The University Transition Program is a Ministry of Education Provincial Resource Program, with staffing and administrative oversight provided by the VSB, and hosted at a UBC site. The University Transitions Program is a program for Gifted students and offers a conceptually advanced, fast-paced curriculum that promotes high standards of academic excellence, a strong work ethic, research skills, and study habits needed to support success in future university studies.

Referral Process

Each year, the University Transitions Program accepts a maximum of 20 new students, ages 13 to 15. Students apply for the program and are offered placement based upon alignment with Program selection criteria.

For the 2023/2024 School Year only

Thank you for your interest in the University Transition Program. The application and assessment process for the 2023/2024 academic year will be as follows:

For all applications received between September 2022 and January 9, 2023, there is an information session on Monday, January 23 at 6 pm. All applicants will participate in a group assessment on 30 January, 2023. Please note, all applicants who applied between September 2022 and January 9, 2023 will have received an email with a registration link to both the information session and the group assessment.

All applications received between January 10, 2023 and March 13, 2023, the applicants will participate in a group assessment on 03 April, 2023. This is the last assessment date for the 2023/2024 intake.

There will be an information session offered on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 6 pm online. The link can be accessed here.

Please note, the above process timeline is for the 2023/2024 intake only and reflects the extended deadline for the 2023/2024 academic year intake.

When the application is received and when the applicant writes the group assessment has no impact on the applicant’s eligibility for the program. All applications will be evaluated on the same admissions criteria.

After applicants have completed the Group Assessment, students will be invited to participate in a school visit and for possible further assessment. Please note, only invited students will be contacted. There is a limited number of seats in the University Transition Program. As students are offered seats and accept or decline their offer, further applicants will be contacted.

First round of offers will be by 05 May, 2023.
