Questions & Answers

Who can participate?

Parents, guardians and caregivers of students currently enrolled in VSB, and adult learners attending VSB schools/programs are invited to join.

What does participation involve?

Participants may be asked to:

  • Share feedback about operational matters such as topics for information sessions.
  • Complete surveys or attend a focus group session about strategic planning.
  • Provide guidance about tools and content supporting our broad initiatives like our annual financial planning engagement.

Details about each opportunity and activity will be provided upfront. We’ll include information about the topic, why it is important, how long it will take to participate, and, how the information gathered will be used.

Why am I being asked to share personal information?

We collect certain information to focus on those most affected by decisions and to help us tailor requests for your participation in topics through VSB Voices. All data is kept private and used to improve equity in education and our engagement practices. Under section 30 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, VSB takes reasonable security measures to protect your personal information. The collection of your personal information is collected in accordance with section 26(c) for the purposes described above. Should you have any questions about the collection and use of your personal information, please email: engage@vsb.bc.ca

Your questionnaire includes a question translated into select languages. Why?

VSB makes every effort to encourage diverse participation. Providing translation support is one of the ways we can do that. The languages selected are the top 10 most frequently spoken based on information about our school communities. While very few participants indicated translation challenges, we are working to remove barriers to participation. Please excuse minor inaccuracies and nuances in translations. While translated information is validated by fluent people, translations were done with the assistance of AI.

How often will you ask for feedback?

Expect to hear from us about three times a year – more if special circumstances arise.

How will my feedback be collected?

That depends on the topic. We may ask you to complete a survey, take part in a virtual workshop, participate in a meeting, provide an informational interview, or be a member of a focus group.

Is participation mandatory each time?

Not at all! Your involvement is completely voluntary. You can choose which activities/topics you want to participate in.

Can I opt-out later?

Certainly! Just email us at engage@vsb.bc.ca if you decide not to participate anymore. You’re welcome back anytime!
